I am in love with this photo! It will be part of a Hassayampa River Preserve calendar, coming up soon. The Nature Conservancy's Hassayampa River Preserve congratulates the winners of the 2011 calendar photo competition: Melissa Oehler, Chrissy Smith, Joy Dolhanczyk, John Brooks, Bruce Philips, Richard Coles, Marc Boucher, and Karen Perry.

Winners received annual passes for two to the Conservancy’s Hassayampa River, Ramsey Canyon and Patagonia-Sonoita preserves.

"We had 41 excellent entries and it was very tough for our judges to select just thirteen for the calendar cover and pages," said preserve manager Marty Lawrence. "The winning photos capture the natural diversity and beauty of the preserve."

Friends of the Hassayampa will have the calendars available for sale at the preserve December 1.

The contest will be repeated for the 2012 calendar.

For more information or 2012 contest rules call 928-684-2772 or email bmccollum@tnc.org.

The preserve is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission fees are $5 per person, $3 for Conservancy members. Kids under 12 and Friends of the Hassayampa members are admitted free.

The 730-acre Hassayampa River Preserve is located on Highway 60 three miles southeast of Wickenburg at milepost 114. It was created in 1987 to protect a rare desert cottonwood/willow streamside habitat that attracts more than 280 species of birds annually and supports diverse plant and animal communities.
