Heard Museum Book and Collectible Sale - An Added Plus for Your Visit to Phoenix

It's time for the Heard Museum annual book sale. If you are in the Phoenix, area, you should add this to your shopping list. They will have 30,000 Books in every genre, plus special treasures for sale. They are billing this the Valley’s “Best Low-Stress Used Book Sale”

WHAT: 15th Annual Heard Museum Guild Library Book Sale

Public Sale: Saturday and Sunday, January 29 & 30, 2011

If you love trolling the flea markets, relish the hours of escape gleaned from a good book or thrill at the idea of finding a hidden treasure, the Heard Museum Guild Library Book Sale offers hours of entertainment, not to mention bargains galore. The event, named the Valley’s “Best Low-Stress Used Book Sale” by New Times 30th Annual Best of Phoenix, draws hundreds of treasure hunters and book devotees to a weekend of relaxed shopping.

This year’s event boasts more than 30,000 titles ranging from rare books to paperbacks, historic tomes to cookbooks. In addition to fabulous book bargains, a selection of unique art and collectibles can be found including American Indian and vintage jewelry, katsina dolls, prints, pottery and ceramic vessels.

All the items were donated by individuals or estates during the last year and range in value from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. The event is coordinated by the museum’s volunteer Guild. Funds raised benefit special projects of the Billie Jane Baguley Library and Archives of the Heard Museum. In its 14-year history, the book sale has raised more than $250,000 to support the Heard Library, one of the country’s most comprehensive research facilities about indigenous art and cultures from around the world.

• Silent Auction – Many of the high-end items and rare-edition books will be part of a silent auction that closes at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

• Sunday Sale – On Sunday, all the items under $10 will be discounted, including paperbacks and a majority of the books.

• Children’s Room – An array of children’s books and items will be available in a special area.

• Early Bird Member Shopping – Heard Museum members get the first chance to purchase books on Friday, January 28 from 1 to 5 p.m.

WHEN: Saturday, January 29, 2011, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 30, 2011, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Heard Museum, 2301 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, Ariz.

COST: Book Sale is FREE. Admission to the museum is additional.
