Susan’s Christmas Shop in Santa Fe is magically transformed
into Susan’s Easter shop each spring. Once again Susan’s Easter Shop is
sponsoring a free demonstration of the ancient art of pysanky.
This year it will be February 27, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM
at the Hotel St. Francis on Don Gaspar in downtown Santa Fe.
Pysanky have been
made for two thousand years in Ukraine. The technique involves batik, or wax
resist. The tool used is a writing pen that holds melted beeswax. That tool is
called a kistka, and comes in fine,
medium and heavy. Only pure beeswax is used. Brilliant dyes are used.
Susan Summers will be there to show her expert level of
skill. She does traditional and
southwest designs on eggs.
Ukranian eggs are also for sale at the shop.
